What is Limecrete Flooring?
Limecrete Flooring is a unique flooring option that combines traditional lime with aggregates to create a strong and environmentally friendly surface. It is an excellent alternative to conventional concrete, offering superior breathability and compatibility with older and historic buildings.
Benefits of Limecrete Floors
Environmentally Friendly: Limecrete Floors are an eco-conscious choice, as they are made from natural lime and locally sourced aggregates. This sustainable flooring option helps reduce your carbon footprint and contributes to a healthier environment.
Breathable and Moisture Regulating: Limecrete allows moisture to evaporate through the surface, preventing trapped moisture and potential damage to the structure. This makes it ideal for older buildings or spaces prone to dampness.
Flexible and Durable: Limecrete Floors have a slight flexibility that allows them to accommodate slight movements in the building without cracking. This flexibility enhances their durability and longevity, ensuring a long-lasting flooring solution.
Aesthetic Appeal: Limecrete Floors offer a beautiful, soft appearance that adds a touch of elegance and character to any space. They can be customised to achieve various finishes and colors to suit your interior design preferences.

Mid West Lime services include the following:
Traditional Lime Plastering?
Our craftsmen are skilled in the art of traditional lime plastering. We use scratch coats, apply lime in single or multiple coats, and carefully float the surface for optimal results. Our commitment to preserving traditional craftsmanship ensures the authenticity and beauty of your lime plastered walls. We provide both external lime plastering and also lime plastering of interior walls.
Internal Lime plastering
There are many different finishes available for internal walls, some of these would be more traditional to certain types of buildings and from which era the building comes from, be it a cottage or a Georgian style house but in the times we live in today it is really down to the personal preference of the client be it a trowelled smooth finish you are after or a coarse more organic feel to the building we will have a finish to suit any palette.
We can also offer Tadelakt a waterproof polished finish for bathrooms and shower areas as an alternative to tiles, all the products we use are 100% lime-based. We have completed many patch repairs to the plaster as a full re-render is not always necessary.
Masonry repointing and repairs
We have completed masonry repointing works on historic structures and ruins from Medieval times right up to more modern structures.
There can be a lot of remedial work involved prior to repointing, this may include window head reinstatement, window reveal repairs, structural crack repairs using Helifix reinforcement, vegetation removal, and grouting.
Limewashing and shelter coats:
Limewash is a traditional decoration layer applied to a lime plaster. Its popularity has declined over the years, but its popularity has been steadily increasing more recently. Along with limewash we offer the option of a shelter coat. The best way to descried this is that it is a hybrid between a plaster and a limewash. It is tougher than limewash and thinner than plaster. Both options can be pigmented to achieve a large colour range.
Cleaning of historic Buildings:
We offer a specialised Ibix Micro Air abrasive cleaning service and Therma Tech super-heated cleaning service. These techniques are sensitive enough for delicate historic surfaces and will not cause damage to the original surface but can remove graffiti, carbonation residue from air pollution, bitumen, oil, paint and limewash.
Maintenance of traditional structures is vital to its longevity.
Regular maintenance is pre-emptive and can prevent catastrophic repair costs. If a leaking roof goes un notices for a number of years the damage that can be caused to the building fabric can be several multiples of what the maintenance cost would have been to repair a slipped slate.
Midwest Lime carry out ongoing maintenance to many public and private buildings. Thermal upgrades of traditionally built structures is something we have a deep interest in. Traditionally built structures are better thermal performers than the current BER system rates them. With relatively low amounts of wall insulation, attic insulation, window refurbishments, and some other small measures traditionally built structures can perform relatively well.
We only use environmentally sustainable materials that are also breathable and work well with breathable wall construction
Brick repairs:
Brick replacements, brick repairs and all types of brick repointing is carried out by Mid West Lime. We can undertake a full façade restoration of a brick faced building, handling all the scaffold design, permits required and the project management of such a project. Often with these projects the chimneys are repaired and of repointed along with any parapets and window refurbishment. We can carry out all types of brick pointing such as flush and brush pointing, tuck pointing and Irish Wigging.
