Repair and upgrade sections of stone wall at Coole/Garryland Nature Reserve

Repair and upgrade of sections of stone wall in the vicinity of the walled garden and visitor centre at Coole/Garryland Nature Reserve, Gort, Co. Galway.

This contract arose from the need to repair and upgrade sections of stone walls to ensure the safety of the public as this Parkland area was a much-used public amenity for the surrounding area. This was the second phase of such work. Mid West Lime successfully completed the first phase in 2010.

The scope of work involved removing vegetation from the tops of walls around the walled gardens. All debris and roots were removed from the masonry and it was then blown out with compressed air. Any loose stones were then reset, and the wall capping formed. There was also sections of masonry to be rebuilt and sections to be repointed. This work was carried out while the centre remained open.
