Mid West Lime were appointed as PSCS for the cleaning and rendering of some facades at St Marys Cathedral, Limerick. St Marys Cathedral is one of Limericks oldest surviving building dating back to 1168.
The facades to be rendered were at a high level and were west facing. There was significant ingress which caused many problems for the occupants. The client and the Project Architect decided to render the problematic facades. The site was an exposed site that bounded a one-way busy city street. A traffic management plan was agreed with Limerick City Council and was enforced while work was in progress
A complex scaffold design was required for this project as the client could not confirm that the roof structure would accept any additional loading. As a result of this we designed the scaffold to span 11m, from the external wall across a double pitched roof to reach the opposite masonry wall.
All materials and equipment for this project was loaded from the street up to the working platforms some of which were 16m above street level. All mortars had to be mixed off site, transported to the site and loaded onto the scaffold before 8.00am.
